![]() ![]() ![]() I really am lost at people who way they need more then 12 Meg except for the most extreme of resolution or blowups. Now if a D4s is to come along in 4 years offering at 24Meg that downsamples to 12 and gives me another stop and 12FPS I'll take it.īut I think we are getting pretty close to the point that the fantics and peepers can debate about what things are better, but the picture we look to enjoy it won't matter much. For what I shoot and how I view 12Meg will be good enough forever, yes forever. No argument from me that the reality of what the D3x produces will be superior as a 24Meg should be.įor people that need it, good for them, go get the D3x. With refurb models going for US$6500 these days, the price premium over the D3s is a bit less painful and makes the decision easier. If I were to choose just one camera now, it would be the D3x. It gains a slight edge from detail preserved even after downsampling. But if you were to work with the D3x as a 12MP camera, you would also find that it pretty much equals the D3 (but not the D3s) at ISO6400 after downsampling. The per-pixel response is stunningly clean at base ISO, surpassing all cameras in dynamic range except the PhaseOne P65+, which it nearly equals. ![]() The D3 is best suited for scenes dominated by mid-tones as might be the case in a sports setting. The D3s can shoot difficult scenes with high contrast at very high ISO without damaging artifacts. The D3s is a substantial improvement over the D3 at ISO 6400-25600, in terms of dynamic range (1-1.5 stops extra), absence of pattern noise, and absence of blooming artifacts. What are the differences? From what I've learned, D3s=better high ISO performance and D3x=more megapixels ![]()
